Colleen Fiumara, LICSW
Entering my therapeutic career, I pursued a Master of Science in dance/movement therapy which felt like a natural transition as I stepped away from the world of professional dance. At Pratt Institute, I received extensive training in psychodynamic theory along with Laban Movement Analysis, helping me understand the deep connection between the body and the psyche. Building therapeutic relationships through expressive arts became a foundational element of my practice, shaping the way I witnessed and supported meaningful change.
As my career evolved, I had the privilege of working with clients across diverse settings and age groups—including adult day treatment programs in the Bronx, adult and child/adolescent inpatient units, Boston Public Schools, and community mental health. These experiences inspired me to further my education, leading me to pursue my MSW at Simmons University, where I strengthened my skills in trauma-informed care.
Today, my clinical approach is collaborative and guided by each client’s unique needs and goals. I draw from evidence-based modalities that are psychodynamic, trauma-informed, attachment-based, and humanistic, integrating mindful and values-driven interventions to support healing and growth.
Over twenty years as a clinician this is what I think working with me may be like . I believe a strong therapeutic relationship is the foundation for meaningful healing and growth. Rapport we develop together, creates a sense of safety and connection. Allowing clients to feel seen, heard, and understood. This deepens trust and offers a reliable space where clients can explore their experiences without fear of judgment or shame. And laughter, how does therapy get done without it?
